Daniel Grant

Daniel Grant is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geography at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He grew up in Oregon and, after completing his BA at Whitman College where he participated in Whitman’s Semester in the West program, worked throughout the West as a mediator, teacher, and on a conservation ranch before pursuing his doctorate in western and environmental history. His writing, research, and teaching focus on the racial history of landscape and belonging in the North American West, with a current focus on the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. His work has been supported by the American Council for Learned Societies, Mellon Foundation, and National Science Foundation. March 20-22, 2020
