Once again, the Center has enjoyed a season of fabulous events. But don't think that just because spring is over, we're resting on our laurels - the coming fall promises just as much excitement. We will start with a bang on September 17 as we welcome Gerard Baker, Superintendent of Mount Rushmore National Memorial and one of the highest ranking Native Americans in the Park Service, to speak as part of our Modern Indian Identity Series. Superintendent Baker will also be participating in our Randy Jones Lecture Series at Rocky Mountain National Park the next day.
Then, over the first four days in October, the Center of the American West, in conjunction with the Western Literature Association, will sponsor Western Literature Week. This festival of the Western written word will feature readings and conversations with a number of the region's most prominent and promising authors, including Aaron Abeyta, Janet Campbell Hale, Linda Hogan, Teresa Jordan, William Kittredge, the Center's own Patty Limerick, Simon Ortiz, Laura Pritchett, Reg Saner, and Annick Smith. Don't miss this great opportunity to be steeped in a vat of high-octane Western Literature.
Finally, on November 12, we will welcome the return of Words to Stir the Soul. This year, the readings will focus on the all-important issue of Immigration. And, of course, as more opportunities arise, the Center will work to bring you events that will take a good-natured and thoughtful approach to the issues at hand.
