Crossing the (Indian) Color Line: A Family Memoir
Modern Indian Identity Series Featuring Philip Deloria
By Kurt Gutjahr
Philip Deloria
The second installment in the Modern Indian Identity Lectures, a series of contemporary Indian speakers telling their stories in ways that confirm the compatibility of tradition with innovation, was led by Professor Phillip Deloria, a professor in the Department of History and the Program in American Culture at the University of Michigan. Professor Deloria engaged the audience with a compelling talk that detailed his complex family upbringing, and the ways in which he has defined, and redefined, his own Indian identity as he has journeyed to and then through the upper echelons of academia.
