The graph shows resident population for decadal census counts and mid-decade
estimates since 1940 plus Census Bureau projections to 2025. The year 2000
population value is the estimate made in the mid-1990s. We use it here
rather than the new census count because it was the basis for the future
projections. We'll update the graphs when new projections are made based on
the 2000 count. The 2000 actual count for Oregon is 3,421,399, a 20.4%
increase over 1990, making Oregon the 11th-fastest growing state in the
nation. Oregon has shown steady growth despite economic slowdowns in the
energy and timber industries, and there's no reason not to expect this
growth to continue or even quicken given the state's much-touted quality of
life.
