Academics

The Center of the American West offers enrichment of the undergraduate experience to students seeking to broaden their knowledge of the region, both in and out of the classroom. We offer a 24 credit hour interdisciplinary certificate in Western Studies; internships with key Western organizations, both public and private; independent study; opportunities to attend Western conferences and other events; and the annual Thompson Awards for Western American Writing. Students are invited to forums, brunches, and other gatherings to engage with faculty members and scholars, writers, public officials, and other distinguished guests. Through these interactions, students may discover new inspiration, and new avenues to explore in their educations and careers.

The Center is an academic unit of the CU-Boulder College of Arts and Sciences, and welcomes undergraduates from all colleges, schools, and majors.
